Ridgeway High School a Business & Enterprise and Languages Specialist College, is a 11 to 16 co-educational Secondary School. It is maintained by Wirral Education Authority. As a Foundation School the Governing Body is the Admission Authority and is responsible for decisions on admissions to school.
The indicated admissions number based on net capacity is 160 for Admission in Year 7 2009.
The criteria for admissions:
A. Children who are looked after by a local authority.
B. Children who have a valid medical reason for a specific placement. You must give details on the preference form and this may be checked by a medical officer of the health authority. You may need to make it clear why only this school is appropriate for your child's medical needs.
C. 10% of places will be allocated for pupils who demonstrate an aptitude for our specialism Modern Languages or any such language e.g. 16 students in all per year (see appendix 1).
D. Pupils who have a brother or sister (including half-brother and sisters or step brothers and step sisters living in the same household) at the school when places are offered.
E. Pupils living closest to the school as determined by shortest road route. We would measure the distance from home to the school gate nearest the child's home using the shortest road route unless it is possible to use a footpath which we consider to be a safe walking route. All distances will be measured by the authority's computer mapping system based on ordnance survey maps.
If an application for admission to the school has been turned down, parents can appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel set up by the Governing Body. You can get more details from the Headteacher.
Waiting lists for admissions to all year groups will be complied in descending order according to the published over subscription criteria.
Notes:
The Governing Body will give consideration to applications from parents whose child/children is/are not allocated places on the grounds of sibling connection or medical need or aptitude for modern languages but who have placed the school as a primary preference. If the reasons are considered to be exceptional and compelling the child in question may be allocated a place regardless of their geographical circumstances.
