As a parent of a child at Ridgeway High School you will be fully aware of the immense pride we take in providing an 'Outstanding' education for your child.
We were absolutely thrilled by the achievement of our students who left this Summer having secured not only the best results ever seen at Ridgeway but also ensuring the school to be ranked as one of the highest performing schools in the North of England. Combined with our second 'Outstanding' OFSTED in June, this year truly has been a year to celebrate.
However, you will also know that we are not a school to stand still and rest on our laurels. We are always looking for innovative ways to improve and meet the needs of all our students to ensure they fulfil potential and are best equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in life in the 21st Century.
With this in mind, I would like to invite you to a Parent Information meeting this coming Monday, 6th December 2010. We will be holding two sessions for the parents of students in year 8 and 9. Parents are welcome to attend either session at the following times:
The purpose of the meeting will be to explain our curriculum plans for the New Year, starting January 2011, with a greater focus on 'Stage not Age' and how we intend to meet the learning needs of your child to an even better extent.
As a student told the lead inspector 'We are like one big family' and we, as a school, want the best for all our family not only in terms of curriculum and standards but our care, guidance and support. We are a listening school and only by working with students and parents will we be able to provide, sustain and improve the high standards and care you have come to expect from us. I look forward to meeting on Monday to share our exciting plans.
In order to ensure that we are equipped to meet the new requirement of the recently published government White Paper, entitled "The Importance of Teaching" teachers will be undertaking additional training on Wednesday 5th January 2011. Therefore, pupils will return to school on Thursday 6th January 2011.
