Special Educational Needs

Ridgeway High School has a comprehensive policy covering Special Educational Needs which is available on request. Our policy is based upon the principles set out in the special Needs Code of Practice. We believe that all pupils have the right to equal access to all aspects of school life and encourage all pupils to value themselves and achieve as much as they possibly can.

Our system also supports able pupils so that they too will reach their full potential. We work in partnership not only with parents and pupils but also with many outside agencies to ensure that our pupils have maximum access to the curriculum and extra curricular activities, regardless of ability.

We believe that Special Educational Needs provision is the responsibility of all teachers. Each faculty area has a teacher with responsibility for special needs provision and Miss S Long (SENCO) has responsibility for the day-to-day management of special needs provision across the school. Pupils are supported in learning a number of ways varying from one-to-one provision to support within mainstream classes.

At Ridgeway, we value all our pupils regardless of ability and pride ourselves on offering a rounded education to all.
