From Ridgeway to University
On Thursday 4th March Ridgeway High School, in association with Aimhigher, was proud to host our “From Ridgeway to University” evening for Year 9 pupils and their parents. The event was designed to get pupils thinking about their future and the possibilities that studying at university could open up to them. The theme of choices and the future was especially pertinent as Year 9 were in the build up to selecting their GCSE options.
The evening’s line up featured speakers from Edge Hill University, the Local Authority’s Graduate Mentor Programme, Ridgeway’s very own Aimhigher Coordinator and the almost inconceivably energetic actors of the Impact Universal Theatre Company.
Opening speakers detailed the wealth of courses available in Higher Education and went on to explain how, with the support available, finance should not be a barrier to anyone wishing to enrol on one of them. The evening culminated with the excellent drama performance “HE4All”. The performance was both highly informative and highly entertaining. It is a rare treat to see a crowd being worked so well; it is not every day you see a hall of parents and pupils in the throes of Mexican wave fever!
Parent and pupil feedback on the event was excellent, with pupils leaving enthused by the promise that their futures may hold. A huge thank you to all those who helped to organise the event and to those who came along to support it. Now all that remains is for the Year 9 pupils to achieve excellent GCSEs and move on from Ridgeway ready to take the worlds of college and university by storm!
