Ridgeway Chick Project
Last term the Science department welcomed the arrival of six chicks as part of a project run by Tam O’ Shanter farm in Bidston.
The project is extremely popular across the Wirral and as they only run 12 projects throughout the year, it is very competitive. This opportunity offers a rare, exciting and ‘hands on’ experience of incubating chicken eggs (carrying out many essential checks throughout the 28 days of incubation), watching them hatch and taking care of them in the early days of their lives.
Many pupils flooded through the science corridor to catch a glimpse of our feathery friends and became quite confident handlers of the chicks. Pupils attending science club made an excellent contribution in ensuring they had enough food and water and took a keen interest in their development throughout the two weeks they stayed with us.
Unfortunately, after two weeks we had to return the chicks to the farm before they tried to take flight across the classroom! Here you can find them being looked after very well and with plenty of space to run around with their friends.
