Physical Education

Ridgeway High School

PE contributes to the all-round education of students by allowing them to participate in a wide range of physical experiences and, by doing so, develop their sporting skills, physical strength and general well-being. PE also nurtures important life-skills such as cooperation, teamwork and trust.

In addition to the compulsory one-hour PE lesson, students have the option to undertake Leadership Courses (one hour) and GCSE PE (three hours).

Extra-Curricular Sport

An option open to all students from whom teams will be selected to represent the school in inter-school fixtures. However, pupils can choose just to come for fun and to keep fit.

Football (girls & boys), basketball, badminton, netball, volleyball, dance/cheerleading, rubgy, cricket, rounders, cross-country.

Facilities

We have three football pitches, throwing/jumping areas, one hard-court area used for netball, a movement studio, hall extensive playing fields and rugby pitches.

Links

We have excellent links with our local clubs and students are encouraged to extend their knowledge and skills through participation in them. Outside coaches are often brought into school to strengthen these links.

School Sports Co-ordinator

Our family of cluster primary schools benefit from our role in the School Sports Co-ordination Scheme, and our school based SSCO works hard to increase opportunities and standards of PE in these schools.
